They say that human life is a constant journey from darkness towards light; that in all the obscurity and shadows which shroud our souls, we will still find a light. But the sad reality is that we can never truly escape this darkness. For when you light a candle, even at its brightest, it still casts a shadow.
Set in the heartlands of Kashmir comes a story of Ameer, an eighteen-year-old, who in one cruel stroke of fate, lost everything and everyone he had ever loved. Relive his story, his struggle to overcome not only his physical scars but the wounds upon his very spirit which have rendered him unable to take joy in anything mundane. Will he be able to fight his inner demons? Will he ever be able to find his soul amidst the shadows which have engulfed his very existence?

A well written novel that describes every feeling and emotion fluently and beautifully. Being a Kashmiri myself, and having heard of the stories of my dear ones back home, this book has been apt in relating to those events and emotions in accuracy.

Indeed a wonderful read! I am still confused that why did your story not win? I liked the quotes in between. Good Luck for your upcoming stories. :)

An act of terror leaves a young man scarred by the loss of those he loves and the devastation of his home. Years later he reflects on the costs of his grief and memories.
An all too realistic telling of the price the innocents pay for others' dreams of power and influence. That there is no safe place in war, that too many of the victims simply want to live in peace.
It is hard to stop reading, but it is hard reading if you have a heart. A very moving story.
